CONGRATULATIONS 2024 WINNERS! | VIEW THE WINNERS
For our first w3 Winner Story this season, we’re excited to feature L+R (Levin+Riegner) and their work on Engine Shop agency’s website. We spoke with the team to learn more about the creative process, the challenges and the outcome of the project.
What inspired the creation of the website for Engine Shop?
The biggest inspiration for the EngineShop website was the infinity blueprint canvas – an idea that everything creative starts with sketches, blueprints, grids and ideas. We wanted to replicate this digitally.
Tell us about the first brainstorm session you had about the project.
In our first workshop, we looked into the existing brand guidelines for inspiration on what was possible to do with typography, colors and imagery style. From here we extracted everything we needed to then research similar styles, competitors’ websites and effects that would set this project apart from others out there.
What major challenges did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
A major challenge was making a WebGL interaction that didn’t deduct from the content, but enhanced the experience of the entire website. We overcame this by making the WebGL be the background and to animate based on cursor and scroll velocity. This allowed for a seamless experience that was subtle and interactive whilst still making the content the biggest focus.
What aspects of the team’s work are they most proud of?
The interactivity of the WebGL and cursor animations – this is something new to the industry and to achieve this level of quality and have it enhance a website is something we always aspire to achieve.
What does winning a w3 Award mean to your team?
